County assessors met at the Court House to set the coming year’s schedule. Precincts represented include Colton Sidney Bronson Potter Davison Union Valley Engle Weir Lisco Court House Rock Camp Clarke Gilchrist and King. D R Snider was elected chair man and W C Bullock secretary. Lands priced 1.50 to 30 per acre with hay lands at 6? per acre irrigated river valley 750 and Lodgepole 39. Personal property values cover horses cattle hogs sheep and machinery with one third of listed values for assessment and merchandise at cost.
The Nebraska County Commissioners met in Sidney on March 15 1898 with all members present. They read and approved the previous minutes. As the statutory date for the annual meeting of county assessors approached the board adjourned to reconvene the next morning at 9 oclock.

Dr. Carlyle of Kimball was in town on Tuesday, prompting local residents to note his presence and schedule.
Henry Eckman, a 70-year-old stone mason, was found near his west town home after a shotgun discharged while he rode a borrowed cart. The wound proved fatal, and Eckman died Sunday night after authorities investigated the accident and searched for his relatives in Pennsylvania and Sweden.
An invitation to the Grand Army Post and Woman's Relief Corps brought guests to Odd Fellows Hall on Friday March 11 at 8 pm. Baskets were numbered and drawn, then a program followed with musical numbers and recitations including The Bounty Jumpers and The Blue and Gray. Encore requests and praise for hosts closed the evening.

County teachers gathered in Sidney last Saturday despite threatening weather. Miss Minnie Chase spoke on the Constitution, Miss Julian McFadden on Pictures in the Schoolroom, Miss McKee on Drawing in Public Schools, and J C Neubauer on Current Events Cuba Hawaii. A vote showed Cuba independence supported, annexation to be opposed. Ward Ver Valin presided, Miss Shelley secretary. next association to meet at Lodge Pole in May.
W L Kingoelty traveled to Omaha. Maud Ewing of Chappell visits. Pat Rowlan seeks four laborers at 1.35 daily with board. Rev. Geo A Beecher preached at Christ Episcopal. J W Hill to lecture at Skating Rink March 22–23. Enos Laughlin expands barber shop with Charley Hadley. Bayard resident McCarter seen in town for land office case. Brubaker reports heavy snow along the river. Sidney hosts Summer Normal eight weeks starting June 20. O W Fowler returns for Blacksmith work and subscribes to The Telegraph. George and Will Ahrens head to Klondyke after packing for the trip.
