Sidney plant drives Western Nebraska phone automation push
Northwestern Bell operates a 24 7 staff of 43 at the Sidney plant which handles Chadron and remote towns through automation. The $3 million expansion boosts capacity with room to grow while adding civil defense space and preparing for direct dialing nationwide by April 20. The automation reduces manual switchboard use, linking Chadron Pine Ridge Crawford Rushville and other towns via Sidney, and even routes weekend trouble reports to Sidney from North Platte. The facility represents a major payroll and a cornerstone of western Nebraska communications as progress continues.
