Explosion Burns Sidney Farmer Henry Laaker Burns
Henry Laaker, twelve miles southeast of Sidney, was treated at Memorial Hospital for painful burns after a broader house heater exploded. The physician said the burns were painful but not dangerous. Laaker told attendants the fire had gone out and he did not know the area was gas filled when he relit the flame. he remained for observation after emergency treatment.

Amendment to forgive wheat overplanting in 1958
Sen. Allott and Schoeppel introduced an amendment to forgive wheat producers who overplanted for the 1958 crop. The 1957 law allows loss of base acreage for overplanting. Schoeppel said most Kansas and Nebraska wheat had already been planted when Agriculture Dept regulations were set.
City Primary Voting Tuesday Election Voting Places Unchanged

Gilman recommends planting in a good seed bed with proper methods and caring for seedlings. Cool season grasses such as bromegrass intermediate wheat grass and crested wheatgrass suit rotation soils class 1 to 4, while permanent out areas should be seeded to native warm season grasses blue stems switchgrass and sandlove grass. Two new field wells near Potter are nearing production for British American with No 1 Wills and Chandler and Simpson No 1 Gerler. A Jessop sand core was tested north of Potter. Ehlers wildcat west of Gurley was plugged. Mather Field shows potential with British American’s No 1 Mather discovery and 2170 feet of free oil in a J sand test. Shop Destroyed By Blaze At OK Rubber Welders Plant
A fire destroyed the OK Rubber Welders showroom and shop a half mile west of Sidney on Highway 30 Saturday afternoon. Three fire units and over twenty five firefighters fought the blaze as a south wind fed rubber and chemical flames that rose about 100 feet. Walter L Riggs, sole operator, left briefly for coffee and found the building in flames upon return. Loss estimated at 15000 to 20000 dollars with partial insurance. Riggs plans to rebuild and resume business.

Four inches at Big Springs Junction, three at Kimball, three to four at Alliance and Sidney. No fatalities so far.
