Flu Epidemic Strikes Sidney Schools
Sidney High and area schools face a Type B influenza outbreak with rising absences. By last Friday 2 percent of students and 10 percent of teachers nationwide within the system were out, rising to 16.6 percent student absence and 10 percent teacher illness by Tuesday. The Junior High remains most affected while doctors advise rest and aspirin.

Muldoon Selects District Speech Contest Participants
Mr. Richard Muldoon announced the 21 SHS students selected for the District Speech Contest to be held in Chadron on March 21 and 22. Duet Acting entries include Tom Stikker and Chuck Borcher with a minutes long one act using only a table and chair. Oral Interpretation of Drama will be a group entry by Rhonda Skrivan, Lynette Wolvin, Jane Matzke, Tom Stikker, and Tim Brei reading a play.

Sidney High Students Enter Math Con Contest
Twenty five Sidney High students enrolled in Algebra II and Advanced Math will compete in the annual Math Con test to be given March 12 at Sidney High School. The 80 minute exam covers Algebra Geometry and Trigonometry with one winner per school. The team score sums the three top scores to compare against other regional schools in Nebraska and South Dakota.

Teacher of the Week James Jones at SHS
SHS recognizes James Jones as Teacher of the Week. He teaches Physical Science and Chemistry, a six year SHS veteran, with degrees from Chadron State and the University of Mississippi. He co sponsors the senior class and Science Club. His wife and two children live in Rushville Nebraska.

Junior class sweater and school T shirt sale announced
The junior class will hold a sweater sale from March 4 to March 8 with orders in the bookroom before school or at lunch. Sweaters cost 8.50 and T shirts cost 2.50 with colors and white lettering noting Sidney Red Raiders. Proceeds fund the Junior Senior Prom.
