Good All Employees to Receive Ten Percent Bonuses

Good All employees will receive a ten percent cash bonus based on earnings for the six months ending March 31, 1956. The semiannual bonus, paid without interruption for five years, will be distributed Wednesday before the company’s two week vacation shutdown running through July 11.

Kimball backs Frontier airline plan to Sidney

Kimball residents are urged to support Frontier’s proposed service to Sidney as the town recognizes it isn’t large enough yet for an airline but would benefit from improved local service and connections. Lincoln would be about three and a half to four hours away, and Denver roughly an hour ten minutes away. Chadron reports a misdescribed four inch water main contrasting with an eight inch chart, affecting pressure in the southeast district.

Three Dusters Balk County Oil Seekers

Three Dusters report failures and new ventures across Banner Scott and Kimball counties. Wildcat and extension wells are noted in Anderson Field Vedene and Potter areas with numerous Stanolind and Petroleum Inc. drills, while two county wells were started and Baum gather Oil reports pay sand curing in Ittner Field.

Funeral Set Tomorrow for James E Harr

Funeral services for James E Harr, 62, will be held at 9 a m tomorrow from St Patrick's Catholic Church. Harr died Saturday at Memorial Hospital after eight days there. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. He was born July 27 1893 in Kimeo Kaw and lived in Sidney after marrying Edna Mercier in 1919. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad and was active in St Patrick's Church Knights of Columbus and the Oldtimers Club. Survivors include his wife a daughter a son and three grandchildren all of Sidney and three sisters living in Kansas. Pallbearers are Harold Cochran James Kucera Mack Peetz Dave Crowley Joseph Ruttner and Dr C B Dorwart.

Broken Bow Man Dies In City Motel

Ralph E. Hammond 70 of Broken Bow died after a heart attack at a city motel and was found at a local cabin. He was a retired farmer en route to Estes Park with his wife. services pending in Broken Bow. He was born September 22, 1885 in Aurora. married to Ann Markham in Omaha on November 26, 1937. Survivors include wife, father Reason Hammond, daughter Charlene Dwyer of San Anselmo California, and sons Floyd of Reedley California and Wencell of Menlo Park California.

Tornado Cloud Seen In County

A funnel cloud descended from dark clouds over Cheyenne County yesterday but did not reach the ground and cause damage. George Schnell of Potter reported the sighting east of Point of Rocks on Highway 30 and suspected Dalton vicinity, though no Dalton residents saw it. The cloud, part of a storm that weakened near Oshkosh, was north of the Sioux Ordnance Depot.

Man Arrested On FBI Warrant In Dyer Act Case

Cheyenne County sheriff arrest of Gordon W. Minnick 46 Kansas City on FBI warrant. He is held for investigation in connection with an alleged Dyer Act violation interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle. Minnick was taken into custody in Gurley where he had been employed.

Pistol Recovered From Car Of Merle Houk

A 32 caliber pistol stolen from Merle Houk’s car last week was found Friday evening in the front seat of his car by Henry Minshall of Sidney. The firearm was turned over to police and returned to Houk.

Three Hurt In Morning Crash At Sidney City Limits

A two vehicle crash at the west city limits of Sidney at 5 12 am injured three people. James S Taylor 42 of Sidney a Rogers Truck Lines employee and Ray Shoemaker 61 of Portland Ore district judge were hurt. Taylor had chest and back injuries Shoemaker suffered shock and bruises both were listed in good condition Billie Shoemaker 30 suffered shock and was not hospitalized. The Shoemaker car a 1956 model was eastbound on Highway 30 just north of the Westside Cafe Taylor was turning south after driving west. Both cars sustained extensive damage.

Educators To Talk At State Workshop

Walter Cocking editor of the School Executive and O H Roberts director of a Ford study will speak at a Nebraska Community Education Project workshop at the University of Nebraska. About 25 board members from Sidney Syracuse Mullen and York will attend. Roberts appears Wednesday. Cocking Thursday with notes on the White House Conference. Cocking has held top education posts in Georgia and Tennessee.

Nebraska Faces Shortfall To Match Federal Road Funds

State Engineer L N Ress warns Nebraska cannot tap new federal road money for 1957 to 1959 without substantial increases in highway user revenue. He cites need for 1.5 million to match primary funds and 2.2 million for interstate aid, with counties and cities also required to contribute more. A 15 mile Omaha to Gretna stretch at about 10 million total would get around 5.3 million from federal funds.

Harvest of Cheyenne County winter wheat appears two weeks off with scattered estimates of cutting by July. Hail damage and drought have reduced yields from last year while soil bank support requires strong farmer backing and careful seed selection for cover crops in Nebraska.

Second Drink-Drive Charge Filed Against Sidney Man

Harold Bickel, 50, of Sidney is charged with a second offense driving while intoxicated after a Friday incident in a parking lot west of the Union Pacific depot. His car backed into a parked vehicle owned by William Smith, 55, causing rear-end damage to both cars, police reported.

Mail Bid Opened for Sidney to Sioux Ordnance Depot Route

Thirteen bids were opened for a two month mail contract between Sidney and the Sioux Ordnance Depot. Acting Postmaster Weldon Stewart recommended approval of the $240 bid by Wes Chapman of Sidney, sent to Wichita for final action. The lowest bid was $200 by Mrs Bill Steele, also of Sidney, whose bid was not recommended due to vehicle type and workload concerns. Other bids ranged from $244.80 to $500 from bidders including Allen Overman Charles Glaubitz Darrell Harms Frank Peetz George Northup LC Landmesser and Emma Kinney and Josephine Billig plus Elmer Chaon.

Wheat Yield Rules Change for Excess Wheat Acres

Cheyenne County ASC sets next year penalties on individual farm normal yield rather than county yield. Payments will range from below 19 to over 30 bushels per acre, with $1.07 per bushel penalty at county average 24.3. State Highway Department released licensing and movement rules for combines. No general road restrictions this year on Nebraska highways though special permits may be required for tall or wide machines. Permits available from Nebraska Ports of Entry including the Sidney south site.
