June crop report notes favorable winter wheat outlook
The June crop report shows winter wheat outlook favorable with regional conditions between 88 and 98 percent. Oats and barley standings are strong, corn slower but planted acreage similar to last year, rains delaying cultivation but color remains good. Bankers estimate remaining farm stocks include 11.9 percent of last year's corn, 12 percent of oats, and 9.6 percent of wheat.
Crops and cattle outlook estimated to lag last year
The estimate that this year's cost crop is nearly 10 percent short of last year is probably too severe due to years of under maintaining the horse population. Nationally cattle in feed loss run 7 to 15 percent below June 1928 figures, while grass fat cattle marketed this summer and fall are projected 6 percent smaller than last year.
Railroads Placing Cars for Wheat Crop Handling
Reports indicate weather effects on corn with rain and coolness slowing growth but now improving. Winter wheat rye ahead, spring wheat oats and barley thriving. First alfalfa ready for harvest. Potatoes and sugar beets growing normally. Pastures in excellent condition due to ample moisture across the state.
