Corn Growers Are Alerted To Cutworms
Nebraska corn fields face widespread cutworm damage this spring with species including black and pale western cutworms. Damage occurs at soil level when soil is dry and near moisture when wet. Feeding below the surface is hard to control and insects become more resistant after longer growth. Aldrin dieldrin and heptachlor are no longer registered for corn. Toxaphene or endrin are the remaining options for non dairy farms, with careful application and harvest restrictions. Endrin is highly toxic and should be used only by commercial applicators.
