Merlyn Carlson Heads Stockmen and Urges Import Controls
Merlyn Carlson of Lodgepole was named president of the Nebraska Stock Growers Association at its first annual meeting, succeeding Bob Hanna of Valentine. The group urged repeal of LB1357 with a plan to start over, backed by a strong stance on beef imports and quarterly quotas. W. D. Farr warned that future legislation must protect American cattlemen amid new cooking tech and global beef competition. The association also urged more senators, supported school lands legislation, reapportionment by registered voters, cattle price alerts, calf scour research, and a nonprofit livestock foundation check-off, while endorsing voluntary school redistricting with caution about uniform guidelines.
