Francis L. Kroll of 1330 Solano Drive in Sidney moves in as he begins work as Sunol schools’ superintendent this fall. He is a prolific children's author, with over 100,000 copies of Young Sioux Warrior sold, plus three follow ups and a new Top Hand due in October. His family includes sons Francis Jr, Stanley, and Keith, all advanced degrees, and his wife is a Wesleyan graduate. Whirlwind Horse, a Sioux native and former USDA inspector, inspired much of his writing.

Thirty-nine oil drilling permits were authorized by the Nebraska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in May, including 18 for wildcat exploration and 21 for attempted development. Production for April stayed above 1.5 million barrels, averaging 51,642 barrels per day, with Sleepy Hollow Field in Red Willow County remaining the largest. New reservoirs and accelerated secondary recovery are seen as necessary to sustain the pace.

Officers Seek Jail Escapees From Holyoke jail
Cheyenne County officials have released photos of two 19 year old jail escapees from Phillips County jail at Holyoke Colorado. Sheriff Schulz said no active manhunt has been ordered yet but local authorities are watching for Jerry Gene Kier and John Nolan Leuth from Sedgwick County. They were reportedly seen in a blue green 1964 Ford north along Colorado Highway 113 between Sterling and Peetz. They face burglary charges in Ovid Sedgwick and Denver. A hitchhiker in Logan County said he rode with them and his description matched existing information.

Sidney police investigate a break-in at the Thomas Lumber Company late Sunday night or early Sunday morning. Thieves took hand-powered power tools valued between six and seven hundred dollars, entering by breaking a lock on the south side door. Company manager Dean Wilson and Police Chief Sol Willis describe it as a cover-up job.

Grain storage rates reduced on July first
Washington D C U S D A announced a one thousandth of a cent per bushel per day storage rate cut under the Uniform Grain Storage Agreement for the 1964 storage year. Most grains drop from 37 to 36 thousandths of a cent per bushel daily, with a yearly rate near 13.14 cents vs 13.505 cents. CCC insurance remains required for government owned and pledged grain.

Net Wheat Income Across Regions Reported
The Agriculture Department reports last year net incomes for typical wheat farms ranged from 5511 dollars in the northern Great Plains to 17521 dollars in the Pacific Northwest. The low figure is for wheat-corn-livestock farms while the top is for wheat-dry pea farms. Net income means receipts minus production costs. Earlier figures for 1962 were 6013 and 18435 dollars.
