Martin Defends Tax Reform Measures At Nebraska Gathering
Chadron representative Dave Martin defended 1969 and 1971 tax reform, citing lower individual taxes and higher corporate taxes. He argued reforms benefited the very poor and middle income earners, noting large revenue declines for low income groups and explaining the 106 high earners with no federal tax in 1970 due to deductions and foreign or state tax payments.

Kingsley Dam repairs target mid June finish
CNPPD engineer Bernard Donelan says repairs to Kingsley Dam should finish around June 15 to 19, with Highway 61 crossing reopening after work. About 315 disroad cars of rock were used, total damage near 0.75 million dollars, about 0.25 million above CNPPD’s initial 0.5 million estimate per R Dirmyer. The lake has fallen about two feet since May 1 and will continue to drop as snowmelt from the Wyoming Rockies wanes and irrigation demand rises around July 1.

Administration Revises Budget Deficit Estimate
The 1972 federal deficit is now projected at 26 billion dollars, the highest since World War II, but 128 billion below January forecasts. The 1973 deficit is about 27 billion, with higher withholding from tax tables and revenue actions reducing the gap. The debt limit urge remains, while Congress weighs tax reforms and revenue-sharing plans amid an election year.
