Wheat income in 64 could be bolstered
Agriculture Secretary Orville Freeman could add 200 to 300 million dollars to the 1964 wheat crop value by activating a Congress approved plan. The move would soften income losses after farmers rejected a plan tying price supports to production controls. House hearings on wheat legislation are planned, with Farm Bureau urging action to protect market pricing and retire crop land to ease withdrawal of wheat acreage.
