Notaries Urged to Print Expiration Dates on Seals

Supreme Court rules that instruments bearing a notarial seal are void unless the notary’s commission expiration date appears on or beneath the seal. In Sheridan county a mortgage on Alexander McKinney’s property was deemed invalid after Mrs. McKinney denied signing, leaving only the seal impression as proof. The ruling invalidates the mortgage since the homestead owner’s signature alone cannot validate the instrument.

Sidney Man Indicted for Land Fraud Conspiracy

Federal grand jury in Omaha indicts attorney W. P. Miles and three others for wickedly conspiring to defraud the United States of title by false and fraudulent entries on rich lands in Denel County. Prosecution cites use of false entries under the Kinkaid law at the Sidney land office on June 27, 1904. The land lies within the Fox Ranch enclosure, formerly the Western Land and Cattle Company.

Nina Miller Weds Robert Hoffhine in Beatrice

Beatrice May 30 reports the marriage of Nina Miller Hoffhine to Robert Hoffhine of Lodgepole Nebraska at the Miller home. Ceremony by Rev Barnes assisted by Rev A G Brown drew about fifty guests. Ada Miller and Ruth Kennedy acted as flower girls. The couple plan to reside in Lodgepole after a wedding dinner and gifts.

Bridgeport Dry as Judge Orders Saloons Canceled

Judge Grimes held a four chamber session in District Court on Bridgeport saloon licenses for David Lee and M H Haggerty. Board overruled remonstrances but granted licenses. writ of mandamus required Board to meet and cancel pending appeal. Next hearing slated in a few days with remonstrators' attorney Raymond and Board members in attendance.

Stag Smoker and Odd Fellows Lodge Lecture Draw Bridgeport Crowd

The Modern Woodmen of America held a successful Stag Smoker with three candidates crossing the sands and speeches by Venerable Council Joseph Oberfelder and others. Later the Court House Rock Lodge of Odd Fellows hosted Mr W R Wilson from Omaha for a talk on Odd Fellowship and brotherhood, with about one hundred present and generous refreshments.

Alliance junior normal to open June 17 for seven weeks

The fifth annual session of the Alliance junior normal will run seven weeks starting Monday June 17. A strong faculty is announced including Superintendent D. W. Hayes as principal and instructors from Sidney Chadron and Lincoln. Improvements include better board and room, a dining hall with wholesome meals at up to three dollars weekly, and a reception room.
