Teachers Institute Opens Across Counties in Session

The first annual Teachers Institute Normal began in this city with attendees from Banner Cheyenne Kirabati and Scotts Bluff. Despite railroad rate delays many teachers arrived eager, with strong organization and capable instructors led by Supt Gardner and professors Miller and Jones. Deputy State Superintendent J L McBrien spoke on school work and history as Miss Wolfe supervises the primary methods due to Miss Burnett’s illness. The model school starts Monday and a large crowd heard the lecture at the Opera House. Enrollment lists include many teachers from Sidney Lodgepole Redington Bayard Bridgeport Weyerts Simla Cleman Harrisburg Gering Kimball and other towns, with more to join by week’s end.

Reception at Odd Fellows Hall Honors Mr and Mrs Millard Osgood

A Wednesday reception at Odd Fellows Hall hosted by Mr and Mrs Bland Osgood celebrated the marriage of Mr and Mrs Millard Osgood. About sixty guests offered congratulations as singers and readers entertained followed by a lavish supper and lively games.

Stranger and a Bike Trade at Potter

Ed Maier of Potter traded his bicycle plus $15 for what a stranger claimed was a better machine headed east. A Cheyenne man later recovered his stolen wheel from Sidney, paying $150 at a hotel before Maier redeemed his bike by returning $1.50 to the landlord. Maier warned himself to beware of strangers.
