Market Lambs Boost Income for Nebraska Farmers
Extension specialist Ted Doane says returns from sheep outperform all other livestock. The program promotes market lamb production, with Western ewes favored and 320,000 sheep statewide plus 450,000 feeding lambs. Orders via county agents and the Nebraska Ewe Distribution program are encouraged to expand flocks, with yearlings lasting 7 to 8 years and 75 to 85 percent of original ewes kept.
