A chaotic collage notes quirky sayings by Josh Billings and a joke about innocence, a Senate remittance on Minnie Sherman Fitch diamonds, a Salt Lake gunpowder blast tied to births, a coffin of strawberries marketed as short cake, Mendricks withdraws from a Presidential race, Philadelphia anger over visiting New York for Centennial, high infant mortality in Egypt, plus Nebraska court adjournment requests to Cheyenne county and an order to adjourn the district court.
The article extols a grand Newspaper Pavilion for the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia. General Rowley conceived the plan with Rowell & Co. providing the banner effort through a vast catalogue of eight thousand publications, promising a noble, authoritative representation of the press and its diverse regional voices.

He accepts execution, writes letters to family, and is hanged at the canyon, his body buried in red soil near a pine marker noting his Steubenville, Ohio origin and death date February 26, 1876.
