Rail wage cuts expected to roll back 1920 gains
Section men give up wage gains as the Interstate Commerce Commission reduces freight rates by 400 million dollars. The U S railroad labor board announced a 50 million dollar cut to annual payrolls effective July 1, affecting about 400 000 maintenance of way workers with a 5 cent an hour wage reduction and further cuts for other railway labor classes to follow. If all such orders pass, the railway wage scale would nearly revert to pre May 1920 levels after the 600 million dollar increase of May 1920.
