Rain Helps Corn Harvest Continue In Cheyenne County Nebraska
Heavy rains across Cheyenne County and western Nebraska boosted corn and hay, easing a damaging dry spell. Fields that were well-plowed and cultivated fared best, with strong wheat yields reported, some fields producing 30 plus bushels per acre and high protein grain. Local growers note minimal damage from hail and largely favorable moisture below the surface. O. C. Dimick’s 140 acre wheat field yielded 40 bushels per acre sold at $1.65 a bushel, and other farmers like Guy Shaw and John Treinen reported substantial, varied wheat outputs.
