European Letter A Glimpse of Glasgow and Clyde Shipyards
Enixette reports a June 1802 journey to Scotland describing landfall at Tory Island, voyage up the Clyde, and a tour of Glasgow. He notes vast shipyards with dozens of vessels under construction, the Singer factory, and the city’s clean streets, cheap gas and water, and social life. Observations cover education, architecture, and working conditions, concluding with a farewell and a dissolved partnership notice from 1892.
