Grain Harvest In Full Swing In Cheyenne County
Harvest of grain in Cheyenne county proceeds with a wheat yield likely reduced by rust yet overall prospects remain strong. Barley and rye show favorable yields though oats are disease free and nearing harvest, alfalfa cuts remain heavy with a second cut expected. Potatoes and corn look bright as acreage expands three to fourfold and fields are still being laid by. Rust fogs threaten wheat, but prices may rise as disease is widespread across the US and Canada. Farmers able to hold grain could target higher prices, while future diversification may limit losses from the rust impact.
