Nebraska brucellosis program expands across counties
All Nebraska counties join the State Federal Brucellosis program led by University of Nebraska Extension animal hygienist Crosby Howe. The Market Cattle Testing program requires back tagging cows three years and older and blood testing at markets and packing houses. Results in 26,520 cows from 14 western counties with 20 significant reactions and an infection rate under one tenth of 1 percent. The program aims for modified certified status over three years with 15 percent tested, plus calfhood vaccination funded by state and federal agencies. Also notes swine disease prevention and urges buyers to source from disease-free herds.
