Don Tebrinke, chairman of the county commissioners, said after a Saturday joint session with a special building committee that little action is possible on Kimball county’s new hospital. With scarce materials, bidders will only offer cost-plus bids and architects won’t estimate costs under current conditions. The Sisters' hospital at Scotts Bluff, once a 750000 project, now tops one million dollars.

Prominent North Valley Resident Dies at 79
Bridgeport obituary for William Campbell Plummer known as Bill, died July 16 after a heart attack. He was 79, formerly of Oshkosh, spent time in Bridgeport with friends, and his daughter Pearl works at Bun's Drugs. He homesteaded near Oshkosh about sixty years ago and was well known across the Panhandle for fishing trips and visits.

Alliance approves new city generator unit for power load
The Alliance city council approved $395000 for another generating unit at the city utility plant. City Manager Clarence Hoper will contract Black Veach to prepare blueprints and layouts for a new boiler, generator, and switchboards to meet the REA line load in the district.

Heat Kills Over Eighty Hogs on Freight Trains
Eighty four hogs died on Union Pacific freight trains in Sidney during a two day period last Thursday and Friday due to extreme heat. A large movement of hogs to the west coast exacerbates losses as the railroad struggles to unload ships. Similar fatalities occurred in Omaha last week among cattle and hog shipments awaiting unloading.

Two More Petitions Ask Paved Streets
The city council moves to create two more paving districts after petitions by property owners last week. Three Persons Injured In Series Of Car Accidents
Three people were injured in a string of accidents since last Wednesday. Birdie Taylor of Kimball suffered a skull fracture and internal injuries when his car overturned and rolled 23 times, ending on its top after climbing an embankment near Highway 30 west of Kimball. He was conscious Sunday night but in serious condition. Julius E. Beard of La Mesa Texas and David A. Doty of Greeley Colorado were in a Friday morning crash near Huntsman. Doty was extricated with cuts and bruises but hospitalized. A trailer house east of Sidney suffered extensive damage when a car pulling it collided with a truck. Reckless driving charges were filed against Doty and driving without a license against Beard. Continued on page 6.

Harvest Nears End in East Cheyenne County Survey
Survey by the county agent reports harvest nearly finished in the southeast part of Cheyenne County at ninety percent, while the northwest area lags at fifty seven percent. Of 130 farms, sixteen have wheat piled openly. most grain is stacked in driveways. Most wheat yields run 35 to 40 bushels per acre. Weather remains dry for a likely completion this week in the eastern third, as rail movement of new wheat remains slow and a flash flood northeast of Lodgepole floods highway No 30 with two and a half feet of water.
