Otis Lyon files a sufficient affidavit in the U S Land Office at Sidney Nebraska challenging William N. Collins homestead entry No 2520 for section 12 township 1 range 4 asking that Collins prove residence and cultivation within the six months prior to the notice. The contest proceeds with publication of the notice as due process since personal service could not be effected. The hearing is set for July 31 at 1 00 p m before the Register and Receiver.
James D. Wolken filed intent to make final timber culture proof before the Adams County district court clerk in Hastings Neb on July 1 1809 for timber culture patent No 859. Witnesses Isaac N Ware Henry Vick Fred Bratz Herman G Muller all of Menry Neb testify before the US land office registrar.
A passenger train on the Julesburg Branch was wrecked by a washout near Merino at dawn. Four people were injured as two coaches a baggage car and a sleeper derailed though no serious injuries were reported. The engineer slowed after noticing sagging rails and the crew freed passengers into the morning air amid wreckage.
