Lincoln reports stem rust observed across much of Nebraska with Banner County the sole exception. Swinbank, UNL Extension agronomist, says Ottawa variety resists most rust races and Hessian fly, leaf rust, and soil born mosaic. For other regions, plant early maturing varieties and apply good cultural practices to promote vigorous growth. winds carried rust spores into Nebraska as wheat headed, but dry heat limited spread and reduced damage in late fields.
