Combine Wreck Claims Life Near Gurley on Highway 385
Clyde W Reed age 59 of Garden City Kansas died on arrival at Sidney Memorial Hospital after a collision four miles south of Gurley on U S Highway 385. Reed drove a 1971 Dodge pickup that struck a guard post and veered into a northbound combine pulled by a 1973 Chevy truck. Reed was killed. the Reed pickup and the combine sustained heavy damage valued at 700 dollars. Rebecca Henry 17 of Spearman Texas the truck driver was uninjured.

1 80 Projects To Be Awarded
Bids will be opened Aug. 16 on about 11 million dollars worth of highway construction projects announced by state Roads Department Director Thomas Doyle. The work includes 5.1 miles of pavement and guard rail on I-80 between Sidney interchanges and on U S 30 west of Sidney, and 7.9 miles on I-80 between west Sidney Brownson and the Brownson spur.

The site likely would be city owned land east of Sidney cemetery, about 14 acres, with about 150 jobs at peak. Soil tests and an industry requested survey are planned as officials near a decision.
