Remark able Sioux Sun Dance described at great length

Dr. T Woodbridge reports the Fort Peck Sioux festival near Poplar river in Montana two weeks earlier. The Sun Dance features a 160 foot medicine lodge, a 50 foot pole, thousands of spectators, and dancers bound with buffalo heads and cords. Dancers endure hours of ritual, with prayers for hunting success and plenty of horses and food. The piece also critiques livestock breeding ethics and urges careful, long term selection to maintain breed qualities.
