Farm Board Begins Relief Duties For Agriculture

The new federal farm board with a 500 million dollar fund will start relief for agriculture Monday. Eight members, including chairman Alexander Legge, will meet President Hoover to plan use of the fund to stabilize marketing. Hoover will present a detailed program reviewing rural industry, stressing overproduction and tariff effects, without recommending specific actions. Initial focus is grain, with a potential surplus of about 300 million bushels from 1.1 billion seen, to be managed by exports or foreign markets. The board will avoid fixing grain prices, aiming to move surplus to best advantage while proceeding cautiously to prevent destabilizing stock values.
