Potter Neb July 12 reports Sindt Bros eight acres of corn destroyed by range cattle. Miss Johnson sisters homesteaded near Sidney. New depot at Chappell Lodge Pole and Sidney visits. County school progress shows forty three districts taught and growing school facilities. Educator notes emphasize institute work and teachers association.
A lightning strike near the southeast corner of the new school house yesterday afternoon killed Geo Hafen and seriously injured contractor foreman Tom Walsh. Stone cutter Patrick Brennan and workers Robert Thomas and James Robinson were knocked down with minor injuries. Coroner Cotter to decide Hafen’s disposition. Walsh showing signs of improvement early this morning.
Bun Ickes back in Sidney with a dislocated shoulder. Visitors include Messrs Stevens McIntosh Gridley and Salholm from Kimball. Carlys travel to Chadron to see a sick relative. Cohns attend a wedding in Leadville. Mrs Pease heads to Canada for the summer. Simon Rubel of Ogden plans a longer visit after Chicago. Robbs of the Black ranch in Sidney as health issues prompt a trip east. Pumpkin Creek land agent Lafferty reports favorable crop prospects but rain needed. A long list of residents and travelers from multiple towns follows, noting movements and destinations. Trotting races postponed to Monday due to rain with two-mile event matches and heats planned at the track.
