Philip Clayton the ranchman received a one year penitentiary sentence from Judge Grimes after a merick county case. His wife Hattie Zimprich Clayton had moved to Palmer then returned to Sidney with a marriage license. The bride alleged bigamy and the brother of the bride filed a complaint demanding trial.
Realty transfers listed for Rudolph Persoto Elmer Rose to various buyers, with amounts and lot references across Cheyenne county. A major hearing by the state irrigation board on Belmont Ditch Company seeking to raise water withdrawal from 270 to 500 cubic feet per second, with lawyers and officials present. The Sidney school board organized for 1907 electing Jas L McIntosh as moderator Leroy Martin as director and W J Shoemaker as treasurer. They approved a petition to issue 15000 in district bonds for more schoolroom and set July 21 1907 at 2 pm in the courthouse for the special election. A purchasing committee was appointed to handle all district supplies and orders must be written by the committee.
The Lincoln Star reports Nebraska farmers have begun harvest using relay teams to shock wheat while weather improves yields. Wheat heads are long and well filled, with forecasts predicting a better than usual state yield if dry weather continues. Corn, by contrast, shows mixed results with weeds and cold spring affecting eastern fields though Hastings and Wood River valley regions report good to excellent conditions.
Chief Dispatcher Brown resigns from Union Pacific at North Platte to pursue other business. Burlington bridge crew repairs coal chute damage and lowers cattle freight rate from 28 to 23.8 cents per hundred pounds, saving about $14 per car. State law sections require gasoline benzine and similar high explosives to be sold only in vermillion red barrels casks or cans clearly labeled gasoline benzine or equivalent. Provisions forbid kerosene coal oil in such painted containers and mandate purchasers keep supplies in clearly marked packaging.
