THE ROYAL TRAMP INCURSIONS TRAVEL BY TRAIN AND RESISTANCE
A band of about forty tramps boarded a freight train near Grinnell and rode to this city where police dispersed them. A second group seized a Chicago and North Western freight to the east and celebrated the Fourth with stolen hogs and burned fences. They robbed a Lisbon resident, injuring him, and clashed with police before Mayor Taylors militia forced them out. The gang later seized a Central freight at Albion before Sheriff Hickox’s posse intervened and escorted them away. Officials warn of further trouble along the line as communities vow to help maintain order.
