Sidney baseball's so called hard luck kid Tom Schiireff suffered a left knee injury minutes before a Sidney Torrington clash. He twisted his knee on a spike in the grass tearing cartilage, forcing him to sit out while doctors assess whether his season continues.
Enduro near Denver Sunday drew 170 entrants from five states. Sidney riders Tim Jensen, Ron Engelland, and Jack Anciaux rode Hondas with Jensen finishing second and Anciaux fourth in the 125cc class. The rugged race covered eight hours through Rocky Mountain country.
Applications remain open for the Milwaukee Bucks Basketball Camp at Chadron State College on August 17. The camp targets boys ages 11 to 17 and features coaches Bob Boozer and Tom Nissalke along with four high school assistants. Contact Ross Armstrong at CSC for details.

City recreation director Bob Roach says participation has fallen since the July 4 weekend with fewer children using city facilities. A Monday to Friday schedule offers supervised activities with equipment provided. A girls dance program with tumbling and gymnastics runs 10 to 12 am at South Ward Monday, North Ward Wednesday, and Legion Park Friday.

The Sidney Men's Golf League ends its season next Wednesday July 14 with Baker and O’Connell tied for first at 26 wins and 13 losses. Ladine and Schmidt sit one and a half back in second, as results from this week reshuffle the standings across the field.
Sidney juniors rallied in the first inning with three runs aided by an error to seize control and beat Torrington 7 2 in a Panhandle Legion League contest Frankie Solano pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts and four hits allowed Kirk Reinhardt took the loss as Torrington was never ahead after the opening frame Seven Sidney players each had one hit Bob Schilieff drove in two runs including one on an interference play.
In a Panhandle Legion League game on Wednesday night Torrington scored four runs in the top of the seventh to pull away for a 9-8 win over the Sidney Midgets. Sidney had six fielding errors and led 2-0 after six innings before Torrington surged late. Rick Seidel began on the mound for Sidney, leaving after seven with Ringelman allowing a single hit. Seidel had three hits in the loss. Bob Schilreff added two. The earlier meeting saw Sidney win 6-3.
