A Civil War era style letter from Norman Moukat aboard the U S Ship Marblehead at Guantanamo Cuba dated June 16 1898 describes a harbor entry and bombardment of forts and water batteries. He reports 5 marines killed 6 wounded on Monday a fierce battle and Spanish losses of 110. The Marblehead Texas and Suwanee bombarded the forts and water batteries and the Texas fired 12 inch shells into the city. The ship captured Spanish soldiers Cuban officers joined the force and the crew celebrated with music and jokes about a pig named Blanco aboard.
