Don Tedesco finishes one up over Roger Gunderson to win the 1968 Sidney Country Club Championship after 26 hole finals begun July 4 at Hillside Golf Course. Dean Wilson defeats Bob Kallhoff for first flight. Hank Barker edges J W Haugan for second flight. John Mason beats Jim Payne for third flight.
The Potter Powers defeated the Sidney Mods 15-9 on Saturday to claim the championship of the District VIM tournament held in Sidney. Potter earlier beat Minatare River Rats 16-4 and Taylor Tot Scramblers 11-10 to reach the final, with a 10-run first inning giving Potter the lead early and keeping it. All-star selections include Kay Smith and Beverly Schnell from Potter, Denise Ross from Sidney Mods, and others from McNeal's, Taylor Tot Scramblers, Harrisburg, Chadron, Minatare, and Dot's Girls. The top three teams qualify for the state tournament in Grand Island on August 3, sponsored by the Sidney High School Band Parents Auxiliary.
The Fort Sidney Midgets defeated Scottsbluff 7-6 Saturday to reach the Alliance Fourth of July Tournament final, led by Halley with three singles and Curless driving the winning run in the fourth inning. Solano pitched 6 1/3 innings for Sidney, Uhlenbrock went all for Scottsbluff.
Chadron Junior Legion beat Fort Sidney Juniors 3-2 to claim the Alliance Fourth of July Tournament junior bracket crown. Craig Freeman drove in a run in the third, Ron Grant pushed Chadron ahead in the fifth with two more runs, and Sidney tallied twice in the seventh before Grant closed it out. Matt Herbert took the loss for Sidney. Grant earned the win after relieving in the third.
Lincoln observers report a paddlefish record fall as Allen Leader of Crofton hit a paddlefish in the Missouri River near St Helena on June 29. The 10 pound plus catch followed earlier mark changes this season, with Bill Shaloupka also recording a paddlefish arrow hit at Gavins Point Dam.

Fort Sidney Juniors overwhelmed Morrill Junior Legion 15 to 2 at Alliance in the Fourth of July Tourney semi finals. Charlie Solano earned the win with eight strikeouts as Sidney plated eight runs in the first inning and completed the 5 inning game under the ten run rule. Sidney recorded 12 hits while Morrill committed four walks and two errors.
