Sidney News Roundup of Visiting Residents and Local Notes

Jay Stuart of Omaha visited friends this week and several Sidney residents spent the Fourth in nearby towns. Postmaster Woolsey of Dalton and others from Redington Weyerts Lincoln Cheyenne Potter and Kimball appear among visitors and locals. Updates include Dr. Darnell in Sterling, Gov Clayton's land plans, land seekers from David City, and a jail incident involving Ralph Rockwell. Big 4th of July celebration in Sidney draws large crowd

A full day of music sports and a tightly contested baseball game marked Sidney’s Fourth of July. Parade featured Cheyenne County exhibits and a vivid front row of youngsters. Evening dances and an opera house program capped the day with profits for organizers. numerous local races and bucking broncho exhibitions added to the festive atmosphere and local sportsmanship.

Diamond anniversary honors Mr and Mrs Haskell in Sidney

The community gathered on July 4 1898 to celebrate the Haskells fifty years of marriage. Friends and relatives from fourteen families attended a surprise reception with ice cream cake and coffee in the Haskell home dining room. J L McIntosh spoke of a life well spent and Mrs Haskell voiced hope to celebrate future years with sound mind and body. A purse of gold was presented by several local residents as thanks and congratulations.
