New Road Is Nearly Ready
Charles Nutter district highway engineer at Bridgeport says nine to ten more days of favorable weather would let the State Highway 19 project south of Sidney be finished. Weather delays have slowed work across western Nebraska, including a 50 000 cubic yard dirt move on State 71 north of Kimball and ongoing armor coating of U S 385 north from Gurley to the Cheyenne Morrill County line. The Sidney runway relocation to suit a longer airport runway for Fronter Airlines is also weather slowed, with concrete work nearly done.

Wheat crop in Cheyenne County shows delayed harvest
County Agent Ivan Liljegren reports warm spells aid wheat filling but harvest remains late with some fields still in the milk stage. Rust risk has lowered though hail remains a major threat. 20-30 percent of acres damaged by hail, freeze, mosaic, or root rot, while about 70 percent hold strong potential for good yields, possibly over 30 bushels in prime fields. Harvest may not start until July 20 and peak by late July.
