Free Campground at Cheyenne County Fairgrounds
A lively, tax free community operates nightly just west of Sidney along Highway 30. The Sidney free campground, a collaborative project of the city, the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce, the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds, the Lions Club and Wheatbelt Public Power District, draws travelers from Iran to Minnesota. Campers arrive about 6 p.m., set up tents and campers, and depart by dawn after meals and cleanup. Visitors praise the oasis like setting and safety, with letters from Hutchinson and other towns noting hospitality and patronage of local shops.
