Wheat Harvest Forecast Holds In Cheyenne County

The Telegraph maintains a forecast that wheat harvest will be under way by next Friday July 10 in Cheyenne County, though experts say cutting may start July 15. Teepee Missing From Fort Sidney Pageant Props

A teepee used in Fort Sidney Days is missing. The two authentic muslin dwellings were part of the pageant, with one last seen rolled near the grandstand area outside the fairgrounds. Sidney Chamber of Commerce asks for the public’s help in locating it.

Wheat price support: 2.15 bushel under PMA plan

The Agriculture Department kept the basic price support for 1353-crop wheat at 2.21 a bushel with forward pricing. Loans and purchase agreements run through next January, maturing by late April. Local loan rate set at 2.15, higher than 1952, with terminal rates listed for major markets.

New Open Homes and Rentals in Phoenix Development

The Phoenix Development Company invites qualified defense workers to apply for homes in the Valley View Addition in southeast Sidney. Sales include concrete work, street, utilities and gas. two bedroom homes at 8000 dollars with 800 down, three bedroom at 9250 with 950 down. Rentals range from 60 to 80 dollars monthly. Applications open 10 am to 6 pm Friday through Sunday at the project trailer office. Occupancy expected within 30 days. Plans call for 75 rental units and 25 houses for sale.

Foursquare Church Marks Anniversary in Sidney

The eleventh anniversary of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Sidney will be celebrated this Sunday July 5 with special services. Rev Mrs Coleman Voris the church's first pastor will guest speak. A homecoming service and anniversary celebration are planned all day. The observance also marks the first anniversary of the church edifice fire and rebuild at the original site 16th and Elm. Public urged to attend morning service at 11 and evening service at 7:30.

Ag College Receives Land Bequest for Research Funds

The University of Nebraska College of Agriculture will get income from seven quarters of Cheyenne County land under the will of W. F. Fawcett of Lodgepole who died last November. The bequest, disclosed this week, designates the money for research with probable emphasis on livestock improvements.

South Dakota Man Hired As City Manager

Sidney selects Murray Fuller 36 of Madison as new city manager after a Monday noon interview. Fuller, in charge of Madison utilities and sewer plant, will start after August 1 with a starting salary of 7200. He replaces Virgil Knowles who moves to Parsons Kansas. Fuller has diverse engineering and Army Corps experience and is married with two sons. City Clerk Gordon Tobin serves as acting manager until then.

Stores Closing Saturday for Fourth of July Holiday Sidney

In accordance with a ruling by the Chamber of Commerce retailers committee, Sidney merchants will close on Saturday July 4 for Independence Day. They will stay open until 9 p m Friday July 3 for the convenience of their patrons.

Mrs Swan Dedrick of Sidney dies at 80 after long illness. Funeral at 10 this morning at Gehrig Funeral Home with Rev C Fred Parks officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. She leaves two children Edgar Dedrick of Denver and Mrs Walter Davis of Sidney, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Her husband Swan Dedrick died in 1947.
