Prolific Nebraska region chosen for deep oil test by Sinclair
Sinclair Oil and Gas selects No. 17-A Singleton in Banner County as the target for a deep sands test near the Singleton Field, aiming for about 7,700 feet. The field has produced over seven million barrels since 1958 and now yields roughly 2,500 barrels daily from the shallow y sand. Previous No. 17 Singleton drilling halted at 6,753 feet after a rig fire, not testing Permian or Pennsylvanian sands. Industry says deep zones must deliver to keep Nebraska as a major oil producer, with past nearby efforts by Shell in 1956 failing at 6,452 feet due to salt water. Additional activity is limited by cold weather, though Morill County reports progress at the Lindberg Field with No. 2 B Schaffert GW NW and No. 16 Lindberg swabbing about 13 barrels per hour. Cheyenne and Kimball counties report new wildcat sites and ongoing drilling proposals.

Ruling on Library Funds Costs Sidney Schools
Sidney Public Schools Superintendent Russell Pedersen said a Justice Department ruling halted a 6000 grant for library development.
