End Of Sales Taxes On Farm Equipment Will Be Proposed
Sen Ramey Whitney of Chappell plans a bill this week to exempt farm machinery from Nebraska sales tax. He notes 16 states tax-free farm equipment and argues farmers cannot pass the tax to consumers. Revenue Committee chair J W Burbach of Crofton opposes the exemption yet supports broadening the tax base. He favors taxing more items and services while keeping a low rate. The issue echoes a broader pattern seen when taxes are enacted.
