Budgeting the Nebraska budget 1924 aims and fallout
In Lincoln on January 22 the Nebraska Legislature weighed Governor Bryan and his two year budget plan for state expenditures. The budget totals 21 987 554 41 with projected savings from cuts in bovine tuberculosis and roads and a reduction from previous appropriations. It shifts many code department functions, reduces university and normal budgets, abolishes the library commission, and promises shifts in finance and public works. Lawmakers debate the economy and await careful scrutiny, with a special focus on tax relief and bond controls. The session notes many new bills, including plans to investigate University expenditures and curb public debt growth.
