County study draws 107 students from seven high schools

City to Save By Refunding Bonds in Sidney
On the Board of Public Works recommendation the Sidney City Council approved a proposed refunding of electric revenue bonds. The plan would refund 210000 in bonds at 2 percent to a new issue at 1 percent, saving about 3000 in interest now and about 9450 if left to maturity, with bonds due May 1, 1959. Don Pettis of Kirkpatrick and Pettis proposed the move, which the board OK'd and referred to the council for approval. Pettis expects to finalize details soon, citing Sidney Public Utilities strong payment and management record as enabling the savings.

Test Proving Value Of Balanced Ration At Potter Elevator
The Point of Rocks Elevator at Potter conducts a feeding test on two Ches ter White pigs named Mike and Ike to compare a balanced ration with straight grain. Census Office Moves to Gering for More Space
The Bureau of the Census district office shifts last week from 1811 Broadway Scottsbluff to 925 S Street Gering to save costs and gain space for the 1950 census. Administrative clerk Erma B. Sidney Awaits Outcome Of Two Gas Well Tests
Plans to drill a second test oil well in southern Dawes county were announced last week. The new well will be three quarters of a mile south of a test on the Fred Neeland land which failed to yield oil. Mat N. Newell of Casper, Wyoming, who drilled the original test, will make the second test. He is backed by a number of Dawes county ranchers and businessmen, but Amerada Petroleum Company of Tulsa, Oklahoma, which had an interest in the first well, is not interested in this one. "It is felt that by subsequent drilling the 'high' of this structure can be determined and there a good possibility that an oil field can be found," Newell said.

Colder Spell Predicted for Western Nebraska
Western Nebraskans were told by the weather man that unseasonably warm days are ending. Snow flurries were forecast for the panhandle with a high near 40, while the northern counties expect around 15 above and Sidney around 30. Snow and fog are forecast for much of Nebraska with no extreme lows expected. The dry winter has fueled an epidemic of colds as residents rush spring and water lawns with hoses.
