First Indoor Aeroplane Flight at 1915 Expo
Lincoln Beachey, famed American aviator, performed the world’s first indoor aeroplane flight at the Pan Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. He launched from the Palace of Machinery, rose to about fifty feet, and flew 400 feet down the central aisle despite cloth barriers and a hundred horsepower engine. The wooden structure and vast interior aisles complicated the ascent and landing, and Beachey endured a rough shake when the aircraft tore through cloth barriers.
