I-80 Interchange Site Approved With Potter Area Hearing Planned
Federal approval clears the southeast Sidney I-80 interchange location and the design can proceed toward a public hearing. The plan includes widening 16 miles of U S 30 between Sidney and Lodgepole and routing hearings for I-80 from west of Potter to east of it, plus access road hearings. The Nebraska Highway Advisory Commission postpones bond debate, cites no immediate impact on I-80 construction, and awaits Gov Exon’s view on bonds. Land near the west Sidney interchange shows commercial development. UP-owned land surrounds the east interchange.

City schools absorb Academy load as grades stay steady
Supt. Russell Pedersen says keeping St. Patrick's Academy upper grades avoids pressuring Sidney Public Schools. About 110 students are in the academy elementary grades and 150 in secondary grades. The public system can use an unused eastward building if needed and transfers from the academy can be accommodated. The academy favors preserving its junior and senior high use for a planned new parish facility.
