Sidney Works On Plans For Field Runway Upgrade
Engineers for the Nebraska Aeronautics Commission are drafting extension and widening plans for the Sidney Municipal Airport runway. The work proceeds on risk to ready contracts once the Civil Aeronautics Board approves regular air service. Frontier Air Lines would need a 100 by 4,500 foot minimum runway, with current 50 by 2,800 foot pavement built in 1954 at $100,000 cost. The CAB order would be temporary, tied to safety upgrades. Sidney designates Frontier as preferred carrier and Frontier has adjusted routing to provide a Casper connection.
