Death of Pioneer John Gustafson in Long Beach 1909
John Gustafson born June 22 1847 in Sweden came to the United States in 1868 settling near Potter Minnesota later moving to Long Beach California where he died December 27 1909. He left a wife two sons and five daughters. Burial was in this city beside his late wife with funeral services by Reverend N P Grove at the Lutheran church.

Venerable Man Hiram Fiske of Licco Dies in Bridgeport
Hiram Fiske a longtime county resident died Tuesday in Bridgeport and was buried Thursday under Masonic lodge auspices with many Masons from Sidney in attendance. He was regarded as one of the county’s oldest and most respected figures and his presence will be greatly missed in local life. Mrs J L McIntosh hosted a Wednesday afternoon party for her daughter’s birthday with about forty young ladies, served by a boy waiter who handed out aprons and treats, followed by supper and games. The teachers note the party’s success and wish such gatherings occurred more often to keep students prompt for school.

In the week article titled Build a Court House an omitted decimal point inflated totals. Figures now read five million eight hundred forty seven dollars and seventy seven cents instead of five million three hundred forty seven thousand seven hundred seventy five. Also the twenty seven million seven hundred thirty eight thousand eight hundred sixty five becomes eighty two thousand seven hundred thirty eight dollars and eighty seven cents.
