Telegraph's Tidings reports a general thaw as people move about and business picks up. Local residents and visitors from Dalton, Bridgeport, and Omaha are noted for meetings, trades, visits, and social calls. New shops and a cigar and notions store opening are mentioned alongside family updates and weather notes.
The year ended with Judge Tucker issuing ninety nine marriage licenses. He tried to reach one hundred by lowering prices to 2.49 and offering cigars, but no willing taker appeared. One man balked when asked what he would do with the girl after the cigars ran out.
January 3 marked the start of the official grad new year as officers prepared to turn over duties. At noon each officer advanced with hand on heart and met themselves, a doubled up ceremony as the old officers left for dinner without badges. Monotony stagnates business.
John Gustafson born June 22 1847 in Sweden came to the United States in 1868 settling near Potter Minnesota later moving to Long Beach California where he died December 27 1909. He left a wife two sons and five daughters. Burial was in this city beside his late wife with funeral services by Reverend N P Grove at the Lutheran church.
Hiram Fiske a longtime county resident died Tuesday in Bridgeport and was buried Thursday under Masonic lodge auspices with many Masons from Sidney in attendance. He was regarded as one of the county’s oldest and most respected figures and his presence will be greatly missed in local life. Mrs J L McIntosh hosted a Wednesday afternoon party for her daughter’s birthday with about forty young ladies, served by a boy waiter who handed out aprons and treats, followed by supper and games. The teachers note the party’s success and wish such gatherings occurred more often to keep students prompt for school.

In a TELEGRAPH letter Edward McLernon argues a county courthouse is needed now and presents tax calculations. He asserts rising values and a 2 mill levy could fund a 75000 bond with sinking fund, while railroads insurers and non residents may underwrite much of the cost.
The McIntosh garage near completion is leased by J. M. Swenson who will assign a skilled mechanic. Sidney sits on the ocean to ocean highway, a popular summer route that should attract tourists and boost local hospitality and business.
O A Torgerson now of Omaha was in town early this week the first time he has favored this city since he fell from grace. He circulated freely among the bachelors as if he belonged and could not be swayed to show repentance.
In the week article titled Build a Court House an omitted decimal point inflated totals. Figures now read five million eight hundred forty seven dollars and seventy seven cents instead of five million three hundred forty seven thousand seven hundred seventy five. Also the twenty seven million seven hundred thirty eight thousand eight hundred sixty five becomes eighty two thousand seven hundred thirty eight dollars and eighty seven cents.
Knights of Pychius held installation of officers and initiation of candidates on Tuesday night. H E Gapen served as installing officer. Following business a social hour and informal amusements accompanied a holiday bargain event at Oberfelder Clothing Co.
Sidney Neb January 11 1910 the Cheyenne County board met to approve 1910 expenses set at 12000 for courts poor relief and general fund plus 3000 for roads and bridges 3300 for old soldiers relief and other items. Contracts awarded for medicine printing and county paper. officers salaries bonds approved. road petition reviewed and road changes considered with Union Pacific involvement. J L McIntosh represented guardian Catherine Ward grant licenses to sell estate of Bernard Ward and a list of audited claims totaling funds. Board adjourned to February 2 1910.
