A former farmhand recalls a hard life and a wrongful murder accusation. Peggy Grey helps clear him by exposing a thief, Mark Hulker, using a con game and a pin from the master. The master recovers, and the couple start a small farm, content with sheep and simple joys.
In a tale from Meriden Mississippi Mercury, Lee Belk perished after fleeing Texas attackers who hunted him with revolver and knife. He sought refuge in a lion’s den, entering the cage to escape. The stunt saved him but ended his life amid a sensational showman’s peril.

Detroit Bree Presa tells the tale of Joseph Rabidieux who, after life in solitary from youth, walks free at last after twenty five years. He recalls entering Jackson State Prison, the endless darkness, the iron walls, and the gradual fading of hope.
A Kansas man in Marion Township, following his wife Isannah Conch's death, believed she was not dead. He forcibly opened a grave, removed the corpse, and attempted to cart it home to prove she lived. Neighbors intervened as he clashed with others, and the body was recovered and reburied. He is jailed for safekeeping. The Virginia City Baptist Society appeals for church aid after a recent fire left members impoverished.
