Sidney weighs U.S. 30 route through Hickory Street

Sidney plans a professional study on growth and a bid to keep U.S. 30 on Hickory Street beside the Union Pacific tracks. The plan envisions an elevated cross over 13th Ave and a high speed highway with turnoffs, pending Congress approval of Ike's nationwide road program. The federal plan proposes a $54 billion boost, with a 30 percent federal share and 70 percent from state and local entities, plus a federal highway corporation to finance interstate construction. The advisory committee cautions tolls are not a full solution and outlines funding targets for 10 years, including $25 billion for interstate, plus regular federal aid and forest highways.
