Sidney Schools begin new era in board changes
Sidney Public Schools moved toward a new era as two newcomers to the Board of Education were sworn in and veteran member Bob Cook resigned effective Feb 1 after six and a half years. Also elected were Rev. Rodney Wilmoth and Jack Peetz joining Dr. L S O Halloran, with Joanne Meusburger named vice president and Roger Willmarth reelected secretary. The board approved a $19,165 insurance bid, a $3,440 wrestling mat from Action Athletic Equipment, and set 7:15 p.m. meetings on the first Tuesday after the first Monday each month.

County leading soil erosion candidate
U S Sail Conservation Service reports Nebraska acres at risk of wind erosion up 84 percent from last year. Across 21 counties 564,632 acres in western and southwestern Nebraska show potential for soil movement due to drought and lack of crop residues. Major contributors include Cheyenne 100,000 acres, Chase 80,000, Hayes and Scottsbluff 60,000 each.

Advisory council reviews High Plains Lab work for 1977
The advisory council met at the Fort Sidney Motor Hotel reviewing 1976 research and advising 1977 work. Seventeen council members plus 11 Panhandle Station specialists, Ken Barton, and two technicians attended. They praised the lab, urged more jointed goat grass study, and suggested training for sprayers and aerial applicators. Dawn millet showed good yield and standability.

Sidney approves 40 acre industrial site purchase
Sidney City Council unanimously approved buying a 40 acre industrial site east of Lodgepole Valley Youth Camp from Upland Industries for 49 000 with 39 900 FMHA grant and 9 100 grant from Sidney Industrial Growth Corporation to be repaid when sold to a developer. City Manager Maynard Dils praised the effort and noted no city funds are involved. The site near Highway 19 will require sewer and water hookups within two years and gas lines as needed.
