Masquerade Ball Delights Fort Sidney Guests in 1887

Special correspondence from Livingston Nebraska reports a December 30 masquerade at the Abbott brothers residence with about seventy attendees. Elaborate costumes included Gertie Ashford as a peasant girl and others. the supper impressed and dancing featured a grand march. Army notes mention Major Boyle’s return, diphtheria at post, recruits assigned, several discharges, and potential promotions.
