Coal vein found at Whisky Run near Fairbury
The Sidney Telegraph reports Mr Murdick discovered a 14 inch coal vein at Whisky Run near Fairbury, the first recorded instance of severe coal and Whisky Run together. It also notes Russian Mennonites in Nebraska introduce thriftier fuel practices such as brick ovens burning farm refuse, and recounts a fatal fire involving a boy burned by a husk mattress when a match ignited it.
