Nebraska Raises State Income Tax To Fifteen Percent
Nebraska's Board of Equalization boosted the 1972 individual income tax rate from 13 to 15 percent to offset changes in federal taxes. Tax Commissioner William Peters said 15 percent is the lowest rate meeting statutory needs while preserving a five percent collection cushion. The switch, tied to federal law revisions, raises corporate tax to 3 percent of the new rate. Wage withholdings rise after January 15. Revenue projections for the year total 281.1 million dollars with a 12.4 million dollar end balance expected by June 30.
